CANADIAN CORNER #296: THE QUEBEC TERMINATOR
DESTROYS THE COMPETITION

Be warned, the Canadian bodybuilding scene has a
new threat! He comes in the formidable package of
six foot, two hundred pound Jean-Daniel Roy who I
have named the “Quebec Terminator”.
Why the name? Well, along with his intimidating physique
he sports an Arnold like jaw and threatening brush
cut in addition to destroying all the competition
at this year’s Quebec provincial bodybuilding
championships.
|
His termination of all the competition began early Saturday
morning where he won the Overall Mr. Montreal championship
before proceeding on to upset favorite Maxime Duchemin in
taking the men’s heavyweight title in the Quebec Provincials.
Duchemin finished second in 2005 and spent the entire
year perfecting his weak ness’s and was back sporting
noticable size increases on his legs and upper torso. He
was confident that this would be his year. Unfortunately
he and Frederic Parent ran into the Terminator and his arsenal
of weapons, which included yard wide lats, striated muscularity
and thick slabs of seasoned muscle. This was Roy’s
first provincial competition and his dominance was totally
unexpected from the disappointed Duchemin who finished second
and the lean Frederic Parent in third.

Duchemin, Roy and Parent
Once the victor in the Heavyweight division it was relatively
smooth sailing to the overall provincial championship as
class winners Bantamweight Daniel St-Arnault, Lightweight
Pierre Edy Micial, Middleweight Stephane Martel, and Light
heavyweight Pasquale Parente although all in excellent condition,
failed to match the Terminator’s superb muscularity
and dominant size.
CONTEST COMMENTARY
Once again Quebec’s Joe Spinello demonstrated why
he has earned the reputation as one of Canada’s number
one promoters as he successfully produced his fourth Mr.
Montreal and Quebec Provincial Championships to a packed
Quebec audience on the July 8th weekend in Laval, Quebec.
Joe consistently raises the bar in his efforts to improve
on what is already an outstanding provincial event. Obviously,
by the large number of athletes who turn up each year to
support him, he must be doing the right thing!
It is seldom that a Junior competitor impresses me, but
this year’s newcomer Antoine Vaillant who defeated
Kevin Norbert (2nd) and Keven Arseneault (3rd) to take the
Junior Quebec Championship really caught my eye. This kid
possesses outstanding overall symmetry, plenty of size and
balance for a kid so young. He definitely is a future Canadian
Champion.

Norberst, Vaillant and Arseneault
Equally impressive was the men’s top three in the
men’s master’s category with the superbly shaped
Mario Duquette coming out on top over symmetrical Daniel
Tremblay (2nd) and thickly muscled Sylvain Avery (3rd)
Bantamweight Daniel St-Arnault defeated a ripped Alix
Agnant in winning the category. In doing so he displayed
some impressive muscle density for a guy weighing less than
143 lbs.
In the men’s lightweight class it was muscularity
that won out over size as the ultra ripped Pierre-Edy Micial
defeated a thicker muscled Miguel Coulombe (2nd) and Carl
Larochelle (3rd) to take the division.
The men’s middleweight category came down to a close
battle between popular Daniel Tremblay and thickly muscled
Stephane Martel. Tremblay equaled Martel’s superb
upper torso development but was unable to match Martel’s
exquisite leg development, which provided him the edge to
win the class with Tremblay second and the sharply defined
Sebastien Langelier third.
Muscular Pasquale Parente narrowly edged out a chiseled
Florian Bianchi to win the Light heavyweight category with
Alex Poitras third.
It was great to see how much fun that the finalists displayed
in the final pose down as each jockeyed for position around
the hulking Terminator Jean-Daniel Roy. They soon realized
there efforts to defeat him were in vain and settled down
to enjoying the moment of just flexing on stage against
him. In spite of their efforts they knew they had the same
effect as a bee stinging a bear! He knew they were there
but he still was taking the honey!
NATHALIE HOULD OVERALL QUEBEC PROVINCIAL WOMEN’S CHAMPION
Quebec’s exquisitely conditioned Nathalie Hould
flexed her way to a win over muscular Jo Ann Dupuis in the
Women’s master’s category and then went on to
defeat Sonia Boutin (2nd) and Jo Ann Dupuis (3rd) in the
women’s heavyweight class. In the women’s lightweight
division a stocky Danea Rowley slipped by a leaner Carmela
Cierto to win the class.
With two class wins under her trunks the superbly conditioned
Nathalie Hould faced lightweight champion Danea Rowley for
the overall Quebec Provincial championship. In my opinion
it was no contest as Nathalie dominated the stage with her
exceptional shape, fabulous symmetry and chiseled muscularity
easily earning the overall title.

JOSEE PARENTEAU 2006 OVERALL QUEBEC FIGURE CHAMPION

Josée Parenteau
The growing popularity in figure competitions was clearly
evident by the large number of figure competitors who showed
up to compete at this year’s Quebec provincials. Former
bodybuilder Audrey Letourneau displaying a high degree of
quality in her conditioning came out on top in the figure
master’s category defeating petite Chantal Paquette
(2nd) and the statuesque Nancy Chartrand (3rd).
Josee Parenteau also a former Quebec bodybuilder sported
exceptional proportion and just the right combination of
muscularity and shape to win the figure short category.
The compact Phung-Nhi Huyuh trained by legendary bodybuilding
pro Roy Callender finished second with Jessica Berard third.
The figure tall class featured master’s champion
Audrey Letourneau back to challenge the younger Elsa Laporte
in a tight battle to earn a spot in the overall final. The
elegant Laporte displayed exquisite shape and pleasing symmetry.
However, Letourneau presented fuller muscles with superior
overall balance. The judges favored the stockier Letourneau
and awarded her the class win with Nancy Chartrand in third.
I felt the overall figure title was very close between
the smaller Parenteau and thickly developed Letourneau.
Both were in outstanding shape and either was a deserving
overall winner. Both showed excellent overall symmetry with
the larger Letourneau displaying the most muscle. Parenteau
in spite of being smaller possessed the tighter package
with notable muscularity. In the end the judges favored
her harder look and awarded her the overall Quebec provincial
figure championship.
Unfortunately, what was once one of the most entertaining
categories in provincial competitions was the fitness division.
In recent years fitness has been suffering as more and more
athletes are turning to figure. This clearly was the case
at this year’s Quebec Provincials as only the courageous
Katherine Tremblay showed up demonstrating why she is the
best fitness athlete in Quebec with her outstanding and
well choreographed fitness routine.
